Nevada Blog

Nevada is known as the Silver State.  It became the 36th state in 1864.

Nevada is the seventh largest state in the United States, just in land mass as it's sparsely populated.

A voice of one calling; "in the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord;

make straight in the desert a highway for our God".

Isaiah 40:3

I left home on January 23rd, 2026.  I drove five hours to Idaho to my sister's house. I got there around 9:30 PM. We stayed up until 2:00 in the morning talking and catching up. Later the next day after breakfast and visiting with my sister, brother-in-law, and my oldest nephew, I headed out the door.  It was around 1pm when I left my sisters.

I drove for five hours. I was so surprised that Nevada had mountains, and snow. Towards the end of the fourth hour I found myself getting so sleepy. I drove a little longer hoping to get back into the desert where I thought it would be warm.  Instead I finally stopped and got a hotel room in Wells. Wells is a small mountainous town.  There was lots of snow on the ground, and it was quite cold.  Originally I had planned on sleeping in my car, but because of the cold I spent the money for a motel room.  It was a good decision, though I hated spending the money.

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?

I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

Isaiah 43:19

I woke up early the next day. Grabbed my bags and headed to the gas station. After filling up and getting a cup of coffee. I started down the road.  Unfortunately, my GPS was not updating very fast and I headed down the wrong way on the freeway.  It took a while before I could find a way to get turned around. I finally got on right path.  I was excited to finally start descending down the mountain, but the wind picked up and I found out why there were warning signs stating "Caution Wind Gusts".  The wind almost blew me off the road.

I drove for nine hours the third day out. I woke up thinking about how my joints were so stiff, my body hurt, and I was feeling so lost without my travel partner. But I kept going.

That morning I decided to drink more water to help with my stiff joints.  I was going to stop more often, every two to three hours to walk around, use the bathroom, and take pictures. Walking around breathing in the fresh air helped keep my brain clear.  Walking around also helped keep my muscles and joints from feeling so stiff.

On a personal note, I had left my partner of almost four years.  We were great travel partners, but not so great home partners.  I thought God had put us together, yet we were not walking the same path and I kept asking God why. As I was driving down the highway, surfing for christian music I ended up landing on this christian talk show.  The speaker stated that "There are times that God will ask you to pick up your cross, leave those you love, even a relationship and follow him."  I had been been feeling this pull to head east for almost a year, but my partner didn't.  She went on to say, "When you don't listen and stay where you are at, you are not only hurting yourself, but those people you each are suppose to meet now and in your future."  I wish I could say it the way I heard it. It really felt like she was talking directly to me and my situation.
